Approaching the end of year is an opportunity to review what has happened and meditate about what has not happened. Above all, we are always grateful for the opportunities and blessings provided during the year. One day we will not be here, but now here we are and we should rejoice. Not everyone has had this opportunity, as many have passed away this year.
Working with kids that have not had many opportunities in life (underrepresented minorities URM they are called) is a challenge and a blessing. We are fortunate for the opportunity to help and be part of their lives. At The Hope Center PDX in Gresham OR. and in Woodburn hosted by Chemeketa College Woodburn Center) we are helping students create a pathway to a prosperous and meaningful life. Students like Uriel (High School) who dreams about becoming a professional soccer player with the Real Madrid, (Or maybe a classical guitarist, or a Minister) or his sister Tonatiuh (Middle School) who dream big but not sure what she will do. Ethan who love sports, Andy who loves computer games; Arianna who works hard with her math and geography; Diego who likes electronics, Ricardo who likes mechanics; Ivar who may become the greatest landscaping architect in a few years; Daisy who is planning to go to nursing; and Ivan who is having trouble staying in High School and tempted to be in a gang!
All these kids are the future of the world.
Board of Directors member Aida Contreras has participated volunteering as tutor/mentor as well. Also included in our team are a couple of students from Warner Pacific University who have volunteered at the Hope Center PDX.
We are ending this note with lots of optimism. We received donations this year including one this week of $5,000.00 that total $5,895.00 including tutoring fees from students at Chemeketa College Woodburn Center. We are infinitely grateful for their generosity to our donors and supporters.
