“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.” > Helen Keller (1880–1968), “The Open Door” [From The Wisdom Letter https://philosophors.substack.com/p/the-wisdom-letter-447]
We start this post with this quote from Helen Keller because it remind us of the adventure we are experiencing with the creation and development of The Hub. The only absolute truth we know is that the future is uncertain and that we need to focus on our actions in the present. Doing the right thing based on the “Cardinal” virtues of Wisdom, Justice, Courage and Temperance.
We know the past and we can use it by learning from it, but we can’t go forward thinking we can go back. We are in the midst of an educational revolution where “after school” programs provide society with the opportunity to create new tools for its well-being. The need for an educational structure that is more flexible and inter-generational is even more apparent today than it has been before. Thus, many nonprofit organizations and for profit business are popping out everywhere with distinctive and particular traits.
During the last six months, we have worked in three main areas:
a) looking for a site, a physical space where we can set the Hub.
b) Doing volunteer tutoring.mentoring which help us explore the needs and mature the processes that will eventually be in place at the different locations of the Hub.
c) Networking to solidify relationships with sister organizations that will become partners in our endeavor.
For sure, we don’t know what the future will bring, but one thing we know: we need to work hard to make this world a better place!
